The Linked Network
Who would have thought that as professionals in the eldercare industry, we would have to be on camera doing video calls and online networkings to stay relevant in our line of work?
On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, Kim and Mike Barnes, KVUE, shared their tips and tricks with The Linked Network during their presentation, "Don't Shoot Up Your Nose...and Other Things to Consider to Make Your Virtual Communication and Training More Effective."
Here are nine guidelines to having the best virtual experience:
- Picture yourself talking to your best friend or family member to help you feel more comfortable when you're nervous or on the phone with a client.
- Smile. Keep a slight grin or smile with your eyes to help you look more engaged and interested in your virtual conversation.
- Set up your camera at eye level. Be conscious of keeping eye contact with the camera lens—not yourself or "at" the people in the meeting to avoid your eyes constantly shifting.
- Face a window. Make sure there is more light in front of you than behind you to help create the best lighting.
- Keep the background minimal. You don't want anything too distracting behind you, or add a virtual background such as your logo for more branding.
- Test the audio and video before you join the meeting.
- Have a strong internet connection.
- Remember you're "on." You don't want to become viral—whether it's kids, someone in their underwear or your dog barking over you.
- Turn on the "Touch up my appearance" feature found in the video settings to create a "moonlighting effect" also known as hiding wrinkles.
