With a crowd of more than 1,400 attendees, Houston Methodist’s biennial fundraising gala Rendezvous: Live Young raised $3 million—the most ever raised in their gala history—for research, education and patient care for the system’s eight hospitals.
Chairs Claudia and Roberto Contreras, co-chairs Lisa and Josh Oren and honorary chairs Janet and Ernest Cockrell guided the gala to its record-setting achievement. During the event presented by Vizient and Hushang Ansary and his wife, an anonymous benefactor made a gift in the Cockrell’s honor to bring the total to an even $3 million.
Held at the Hilton Americas-Houston and emceed by KPRC news anchor Dominique Sachse, the evening recognized three honorees whose inspirational generosity will propel Houston Methodist into the future of Leading Medicine—Paula and Joseph C. “Rusty” Walter III, the Jerold B. Katz Foundation and Freeport LNG.
At the conclusion of the program, Elizabeth Blanton Wareing announced "Leading Medicine to the Power of M, The Campaign for Our Second Century." As Houston Methodist prepares to commemorate the institution’s centennial in 2019, this bold and historic campaign has a goal of raising $500 million to support continued unparalleled patient care, world-class education and groundbreaking research in the next 100 years.
Highlights of the night included entertainment by the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts young performers, a spectacle of lasers and music, Las Vegas sensation DJ Crykit, and dancing with glow-in-the-dark bracelets and cheer sticks for an immersive light show experience.
