Nearly 200 caregivers and service providers joined the Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter on June 28, 2019 for their annual Caregiver Conference.
Held at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, the conference included educational presentations, which were made in both English and Spanish, that covered a range of topics. Topics included a basic overview of Alzheimer's disease, legal and financial matters, effective communication strategies, and the importance of self-care for caregivers.
Community service providers were represented and caregivers enjoyed interacting with them to learn about services and resources available to their loved ones with dementia.
A favorite of the day was the self-care fair where attendees had the opportunity to practice a variety of stress relief techniques including chair yoga, tai chi, belly breathing, tapping and essential oils.
On-site respite was provided enabling caregivers to attend who would have been unable to otherwise. The respite caregivers planned a full day of fun activities designed specifically for individuals with dementia.
Participants returned home feeling empowered, encouraged and inspired.
The Senior Resource Guide was a proud sponsor of this event and provided free copies of the Guide to attendees.
