Fifty thousand attendees got their bookworm on at the 23rd annual Texas Book Festival held at the Texas State Capitol and on surrounding streets. The Festival was presented by H-E-B and AT&T, as well as many other generous donors and sponsors who have kept the event free and open to the public. The Senior Resource Guide was a proud sponsor of this event.
The Festival included 300 authors including Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Lawrence Wright, local favorite Sarah Bird, astronaut Scott Kelly and more! The event featured something for everyone, from the C-Span Book TV tent to Kids on Congress.
The First Edition Literary Gala was held on Friday, October 26 at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin. Featured authors included Michael Beschloss, Celeste Ng, Jacqueline Woodson and Luis Alberto Urrea. The New York Times Magazine editor, Jake Silverstein, was the emcee for the evening.
The Gala raised more than $675,000 for all the Texas Book Festival literary outreach programs, including Reading Rock Stars, Texas Library Grants and Real Reads, the new literacy outreach program for middle and high school students. The Gala also keeps the festival weekend and Texas Teen Book Festival free and open to the public.
