The 7th Annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff raised a record-breaking amount for its charities on February 26, 2017 with the help of over 3,000 attendees.
More than 30 local organizations and businesses fired up the competition with their unique kosher chili recipes to benefit the seven local Jewish Day Schools and the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center's Meals on Wheels Program.
The sizzling event gathered the Houston Jewish community to enjoy live entertainment, raffles, silent auction, and fun activities like face painting and an obstacle course—all while sampling some of Houston's best kosher chili.
The Cookoff ended with celebrity and media food judges announcing the following winners:
- 1st Place: Aishel House (Holy Chili Peppers)
- 2nd Place: Friendship Circle/Chabad Outreach/CHAI Learning Center of West Houston
- 3rd Place: Congregation Emanu El Boy Scout Troop 1190
- Showmanship and Spirit Award: Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services
- Joshua Berry People’s Choice Award: Greene Family Camp
All winning teams were presented with trophies.
