Although the official holiday falls the Sunday after Labor Day every year, Grandparents Day shouldn’t be celebrated just once annually. There’s no reason not to make any and every day a special one for grandparents. Whether you celebrate it once a year or once a week, try these ideas for an unforgettable bonding experience.
Get out of town. Go somewhere new or out of the ordinary and make it an official grandparent-grandchild tradition. Tour the Blue Bell factory, explore a new museum, drive down to Galveston, or spend a day at the zoo. Whatever you choose, turn it into a unique experience that your grandchild will look forward to time and time again.
Find your green thumb. Start a garden with your grandkids and let them harvest it whenever they come over. You can put your creativity to the test as you dream up new, healthy meals each time. Not only will your grandkids learn important lessons about healthy eating, they’ll have fun while doing it.
Get crafty. Decorate picture frames and/or photo albums, then hold your own photo shoot to fill them up - you’ll have an automatic reminder of your special day. You can also try turning your pictures into homemade puzzles by gluing a photo to a piece of cardboard and cutting it into pieces.
Transform your home. Build a blanket fort or set up a tent for an indoor “campsite.” You can spend the night roasting marshmallows on the stove and telling stories around a faux campfire. Turning your home into something different adds a new element of fun to any activity and feels like an exotic getaway, instead of a staycation.
