What is Affordable Housing?
Affordable Housing is housing that is designed for families whose income is at or below the area median income as rated by the national or local government. This generally means that if your income is below 60 percent of the area median income, you may qualify to live at an affordable housing community.
Do I qualify for Affordable Housing?
Qualifying criteria set by HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) is determined by the number of persons living in or applying to a household and their total combined gross income. For most housing programs, the general qualification requires a household to make less than 60 percent of the area median income. For further qualification information, please contact the management office of an affordable community that interests you. Example: A two-person household can make up to $41,280 gross annually. *This amount is subject to change.
What documents are required?
Since affordable housing is based on income, you will need to make sure you have the correct documentation available when applying. Some examples of documents that will be required include: the most current Social Security award letters, pension award letters, paycheck stubs, bank statements, etc. Other documentation may be required depending on your particular household.
